Our Mission

The mission of The Growing Place is to assist each child in developing a positive self-concept while participating in developmentally appropriate activities in a caring and responsive environment.

Why The
Growing Place?

Child care and Education Available for Many Ages

Our Staff

The Growing Place employs approximately 70 dedicated caregivers and administrative staff. Staff members are required to have criminal record, FBI fingerprinting, and child abuse history clearances. They obtain required physicals and continuing education along with training in first aid, fire safety, recognizing and reporting child abuse, and emergency preparedness. All of our staff members are required to receive at least 24 hours of professional development each year.

Most of our teachers have bachelor’s degrees in Early Childhood Education (ECE) or a related field with ECE credits. Most of our assistant teachers have or are working towards their CDA, or Child Development Associate Certification. This is awarded to individuals who have demonstrated competence in meeting the needs of children, and is recognized as an important building block to improve the quality of child care.

Emergency Weather Closings

Sometimes the weather can be unpredictable. If our centers are ever closed due to inclement weather, you will find an announcement here either the night before or early in the morning. The Growing Place reserves the right to close or delay opening due to weather. Our decision to close or delay the Working Parent Program is independent of Pleasant Valley School District. If The Growing Place is open, parents are responsible for regular payments regardless of weather or attendance.

Working Parent Programs—Infant, Toddler, Preschool, and School Age

The Working Parent Program will be open as usual unless we announce otherwise on our website and Facebook page.

This includes School Age Programs, which will be open for care during PVSD delayed openings, early dismissals, and closures, unless announced otherwise.

Preschool Programs

Preschool programs cancel classes when Pleasant Valley School District closes due to inclement weather.

Preschool programs will hold all classes on their regular schedule when Pleasant Valley School District has a delayed opening or an early dismissal. If we decide to close, we will call parents.

PA Pre-K Counts

The Growing Place Pre-K Counts cancels classes when Pleasant Valley School District closes due to inclement weather.

If there is a one-hour delayed opening, Pre-K Counts AM class will open one hour late at 10:15 a.m. and close at the normal time of 11:45 a.m. The PM class will operate as usual.

If there is a two-hour delayed opening, Pre-K Counts will follow a modified schedule. Both the AM and PM classes will be shortened by one hour as follows:

  • AM: 11:15 to 12:45
  • PM: 1:45 to 3:15
  • If Pleasant Valley calls for early dismissal, there will be no PM class.
